Transition From Primary

Are you joining us in September?
You're in the right place!

It's an exciting time and you probably have lots of questions! Check out the answers to our top questions.

Moving to secondary school FAQ

Will I be with my friends in my form group?

Before you join us we spend a lot of time planning out the form group you will be in – we use all the information that your school and parents tell us. We try to make sure that you are placed with someone from your primary school.

But don’t worry, when we start we’ll spend time getting to know everyone in your form group – it’s a great time to make new friends!

What’s different in Seconday School?

It’s bigger! Again – don’t worry we have loads of people to help you.

During the day you’ll move to different classrooms for different lessons. This is really important for lessons where the classroom has special equipment like Science, Design Technology, PE and IT.

With Covid we couldn’t move classrooms, but hopefully we’ll be able to when you start.

What time does school start?

Doors open at 8:00 am
Be in the academy by 8:25 am
Ready for first lesson by 8:30 am

How much lunch money?

We’re totally cashless! This means when you go to buy lunch or a snack you’ll spend money that’s put on your student card. Don’t worry, we’ll show you how to use this.

Parents can use ParentPay to top up these cards.

What if I get lost around school?

Don’t panic! We have a big building but lots of people around who’ll be able to help you and maps. By October you’ll be a pro and know exactly how to get around.

Life at Grange

Hello to our students starting in September! We absolutely can’t wait for you to join us.

So what’s life like at Grange? We asked a couple of our current students to share what they think.

Naqib

"My time at this school went pretty fast, faster than I thought it would be and to be honest it was better than I thought it would be. This was because of the many opportunities I was granted by the school, the teachers and other students. With everything that I’ve had the chance to go on like the scholars program with the Brilliant Club I am grateful and I actually had a lot of fun."

Diana

My time at Grange began long before I even thought about Secondary School. I was invited to take part in a drama club here when I was only in Year Five. I went, nailed the performance, and became acquainted with teachers, other students, and the school itself during my time. I fell in love with Grange, and it was this drama club that made me so keen to come here, and the rest was history.

There have also been countless trips over the past five years like the Disneyland Paris trip in 2019, which was one heck of a ride (no pun intended), and some smaller, more local trips, like when I went to Bolling Hall in Year Seven! There were also annual Alton Towers trips, all of which gave me some of the most special memories with my friends and helped me face my fears of scary rollercoasters!

There were many friends and teachers that came and went over my time at Grange, all of whom gave me something special to remember! As well as this, there were countless clubs that opened so many doors for me. Grange really does not hold back when it comes to giving their students the best opportunities in the business! In fact, it was going to these clubs that helped me figure out my passions and dreams. I attended First Story (a club for creative writing) and Freedom Studios (an external drama company that came in and hosted a drama club) for roughly two or three years respectively, and they literally changed my life for the better. I even got to go on a residential trip through First Story that changed my outlook on what it means to be a writer and taught me so much about myself (I also got to meet plenty of new friends there)!

As for what I am doing after I leave Grange, well, I will be studying Philosophy, French, and Sociology at A-Level, and I aspire to go to university somewhere in Europe! I also dream of being able to pursue my passions (writing and acting) in the future!
