Behaviour for Learning Policy
Everyone at Grange Technology College will be positive and creative members of society and will fulfil their potential.
Members of the college community have:

The Code of Conduct
We aim to create and sustain a community of which we all feel proud. We will continue to develop an effective climate for learning in which all members of the community feel safe and secure and respect the rights of everyone. We will celebrate students' achievements and reward them for their efforts.
All parents/carers, students and staff agree to apply and follow the code of conduct consistently.
Staff will:
- Be good role models for students and peers.
- Be responsible for ensuring a prompt start to lessons and be ready to deliver interesting, stimulating lessons designed to engage pupils' interest.
- Support the school policy on Equal Opportunities and encourage students to show respect for members of the community and the environment.
- Work to develop positive relationships with students by modelling calm behaviour.
- Speak politely and calmly and respect everyone's personal space.
- Treat all members of the community equally and fairly and consistently, meeting their individual needs.
Parents/carers will:
- Be good role models for all other members of the community.
- Ensure their child attends regularly, arrives on time.
- Support the school policy on Equal Opportunities and encourage students to show respect for members of the community and the environment.
- Ensure students wear the agreed school uniform and bring correct equipment.
- Support the school in modelling polite, calm and orderly behaviour.
- Work in partnership with school staff to ensure that their child is able to achieve to the best of their ability.
Students will:
- Be good role models for all other members of the community.
- Be prepared to work to achieve to the best of their ability.
- Attend all lessons, arriving on time ready to learn and with the correct equipment.
- Wear the agreed school uniform.
- Show care, concern and respect for everyone.
- Speak politely and calmly to everyone.
- Behave in an orderly manner and move around the corridor in a safe way.
- Use electronic devices (e.g. phone, MP3 players etc.) in an appropriate way; only at break and lunchtime, outside of the school buildings.
Rewards
We have high expectations of students at Grange and expect they will display positive behaviour at all times. Therefore the Code of Conduct highlights the need to recognise and reward the achievements of all students. All staff are encouraged to apply rewards consistently.

Where a student is unable to follow the Code of Conduct in during lessons the class teacher may consider the following strategies:
- Written Praise
- Verbal Praise
- Merits
- Bronze, silver, gold award
- Positive e-portal entry
- Tutee of the Week award
- Trips and activities
- Department commendation
- Subject Prizes
- Displays of work
- Presentations
- Use of plasma screens
- Grange Globe
- Points Mean Prizes

- Departmental/Area Referral
- "Catch them being good."
- Interventions and Support
In the event of students being unable to follow the Code of Conduct there are a range of interventions which can be applied to guide students back to following the Code. It is always our intention to support students to modify their behaviour.
Classroom Strategies

- Detention
- Negative e- portal entry
- Note in planners
- Subject/Area support
If a student continues to be unable to follow the Code of Conduct within a subject area, Subject leaders and Area directors may consider:
- Departmental withdrawal
- Area Report
- Departmental report
- Area Detention
- Departmental detention
- Contacting parents.
Whole school support:
Where a student is unable to follow the code of conduct in a number of subject areas or where there is a serious incident which breaches the code of conduct a student may be referred to the school's support teams who may consider the following interventions:
- Tutor Report
- Year Manager Report
- Year director Report
- Pastoral Support Programme
- Support from the LSC
- Support from the ACE centre
- Support from the Behaviour Improvement Programme
- Internal Exclusion to ACE
- Fixed term exclusion
- Referral to outside agencies
Permanent Exclusion
Permanent exclusion is a last resort. The Headteacher may decide to permanently exclude a student for a first "one off" offence. These may include:
- Serious actual or threatened violence against another pupil or member of staff
- Sexual abuse or assault
- Supplying an illegal drug
- Carrying an offensive weapon.
The Headteacher may also decide to permanently exclude a pupil where persistent and defiant misbehaviour continues despite the application of appropriate sanctions and strategies.
