Tanzanian Teachers Visit Grange

In November 2009 Grange hosted a two week study tour for five teachers from the Meserani Education Centre and Ensue Community School near Arusha, Tanzania. During their time in the UK, time was spent in classes meeting students and staff.
The five teachers are:
- Ms Neema Muro (Ney-ma)
- Mr Loishiye Ole Sabore (Lou-shey)
- Mrs Natanynaki Laizer (Nai)
- Mrs Lucy Ensue Urio (En-sue)
- Mr Elipokea Urio (Elip-o-kea)

Lots of time was spent expanding their skills and knowledge of teaching and management of schools. They all had the opportunity to meet with key people outside school such as the Lord Mayor and heads of local schools and colleges.

It wasn’t all work as we felt it was important for our guests to experience as much of the UK and some of the amazing attractions it has to offer. Excursions were arranged to London, The Deep in Hull, bowling with our students, cinema and a fireworks display. Students in the Tanzanian schools will love to hear about these visits.
Feedback for Grange is that it is a very welcoming school and that our students are very lucky to have all the opportunities that we offer.

One comment from the teachers that made us realise the impact of what we have achieved was, "I feel that I have walked from the darkness into the light and now see how I can change things."
Grange has run several activities this term led by staff and pupils to raise awareness and funds to enable this study tour to take place. A small example are: sponsored skydive, creating Christmas tree decorations, Sponge a Teacher, sponsored silence, non-uniform day and cake stalls to name but a few.

Thank you to everyone for your support with Grange’s project in partnership with Working in Tandem, a Nottingham University student-led organisation.
