Lord Mayor's Appeal

Xmas Card 2009
The Lord Mayor's Appeal Christmas Card for 2009, featuring a wintry looking Alhambra Theatre was designed by Henna Jabeen a Year 11 student at Grange Technology College.

Pupils at the college created designs for the card using a variety of different media and technology. Twelve designs were selected by the College from which the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress selected Henna's winning design.

Henna and fellow GCSE Art students from Grange Technology will be visiting Ernest Cummins Printers, a family business based in Bradford for 100 years, to see her design brought to life. All the short listed designs will be on display in the Reception of City Hall week commencing 9th November and the students will be meeting the Lord Mayor in City Hall on 12th November to talk to him about their ideas and the techniques used to create their designs.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr John Godward said ‘We are very lucky that students from Grange Technology College have supported our Appeal this year in a number of ways and once we started to think about ideas for a Christmas card they very quickly volunteered to hold a competition in school as part of their Art GCSE. Choosing a winner was not an easy task as there were some wonderful designs, from the traditional to the very contemporary, but we thought that Henna's image of a Bradford landmark looking suitably festive was outstanding.'

Packs of 10 A6 size cards with envelopes cost £3.50 and all profits from the sale of each pack of cards will be going to Little Heroes and Bradford & District Senior Power. Each card will feature inside the logos for the two charities the Lord Mayor is supporting and the message ‘Seasons Greetings.
